We created a windows app which is connected to a website. When users download and install the app they see always some security failure warning from windows. Thats why I want to install a Client certificate for secure mTLS handling. I found some CA providers but these providers cost a lot of money. Is there any free CA provider for client certificates?

Yes, there are. However, only a handful of them offer those free certificates for an extended period. And even in this free option, some free CA providers have a limited number of certificates that they offer.

Here is a shortlist of CAs that give free client certificates

SiteGround

ZeroSSL

SSL

Geotrust

Quality SSL

SiteGroud: offer many hosting plans and features for free. They also offer a free Cloudflare CDN, have superb customer service, and save you the stress of manually backing up your data during their daily backup and restore. They do this automatically.

ZeroSSL: also offers a free client certificate for applications. Most of all, they are one of the few CA providers that issue a certificate in the blink of an eye.

Although their free certificates are free for only 90 days, they allow you to renew those certificates free of charge. In addition to that, if activated (permitted), their ZeroSSl Certbot will automatically renew your certificate as often as needed.

Unfortunately, these mouthwatering free options are only limited to three certificates. So, if you need more certificates, and need to unlock more of their features, you have to upgrade to a paid plan.

SSL: only offer free certificates for 90 days.

GeoTrust and QualitySSl: offer free certificates for only 30 days before you are asked to pay some $$$.

I hope this was useful.
